State-approved Basic Nursing Assistant (CNA) program provides instruction on the basic nursing skills needed to assist the professional nurse. Basic nursing skills are presented with an emphasis on applying concepts and principles of nursing care for the geriatric client in a variety of settings. The program includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences.

Prepare a skilled and dependable nurse assistant with the basic nursing skills needed to work effectively in hospitals, home health agencies, and long-term care facilities.

Provide clinical training that includes vital signs, measuring and recording height and weight, patient positioning and transfers, personal hygiene, skin care, assisting with diet and fluid intake, abnormal changes in body functioning, care of the environment, and basic restorative techniques.

Instruct the learners in courses of introduction to healthcare, basic nursing skills, body structure and function, infection control, and care of the geriatric patient.
Expected outcomes, the student will be able to:

Apply and perform the concepts and principles of basic nursing care skills in a variety of health care settings.

Understand the communication needs, demonstrate an awareness of developmental tasks of this age group, and of the care required for the cognitively-impaired patients.

Certified Nursing Aide Externship (clinicals)

Graduates may challenge the State Certification Exam for the Basic Nursing Assistant (CNA). A certificate of completion for Basic Nursing Assistant (CNA) will be awarded to those students who will successfully complete both the above listed courses (CNA101, CNA110) and pass a final comprehensive exam at the College.
