Course Description:

Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Medical Billing and Coding module is developed to enable students to handle medical billing and coding in a hospital or clinical environment. There is a growing demand for billers and coders and this need is expected to continue for years to come. The objective of this training program is to create entry-level billing and coding professionals. New billers and coders who will complete this program will immediately demonstrate their competency in the field, even if they don’t have much job experience. A Certificate of Completion in this program will demonstrate a commitment to billing and coding even for those who are new in the field. Upon completion of the course the candidates may write the Certified Coding Professional (CCA) Certification examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Certification offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). CCA holders will distinguish themselves from non-credentialed coders and those who hold credentials from other organizations that do not require the higher level of expertise necessary to earn AHIMA certification. The CCA should be viewed as the starting point for an individual entering a new career as a coder. The Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification exam demonstrates the mastery level skills that the CCA would strive for to advance his or her career.
